5 Simple Steps to Embrace a Healthier Lifestyle

Rethinking Healthy Eating

Since co-founding Little Erth, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with people who are curious
about exploring a plant-based lifestyle or simply incorporating more plants into their diet.

One of the most common questions I hear about healthy eating is:
“Will it fill me up?” or “I love my food—will this really satisfy my taste buds?”

Many people still associate healthy eating with dieting or deprivation—a major misconception. But here’s the truth:
changing your lifestyle has nothing to do with deprivation.

Why Dieting Isn’t the Answer

Dieting can be a stressful process. You’re constantly counting calories, tracking every bite, and worrying about
not losing “enough” weight each week. This pressure can backfire—stress raises your cortisol levels, which in turn
increases insulin, leading to cravings for sugar and fatty foods. This is one reason many people struggle with weight loss.

By contrast, transitioning to a healthier lifestyle is a positive, sustainable choice that isn’t
focused on the scale. The goal is long-term wellbeing, not short-term results. This journey is filled with excitement,
discovering new foods, flavours, and habits that nourish both your body and mind.

Five Steps to Enjoy the Process

Step 1 – Make a Decision

As simple as it sounds, this is the most important step. You need to truly commit to this path and feel it in your gut.
Make a promise to yourself—and to your body—that you’ll care for it more consciously from this moment on.

Step 2 – Learn About Your Body

Before changing anything, take time to understand your body:

  • How does it work?
  • Why do we crave certain foods?
  • How does digestion impact our health?
  • What is gut health and how can we nurture it?

Educate yourself about the harmful effects of foods often marketed as “healthy,” like sugary protein bars,
processed cereals, or flavored yogurts. This knowledge will make your choices easier and more intentional.

Step 3 – Eliminate

Now it’s time to clean out your fridge and pantry. Say goodbye to processed juices, sodas, packaged cereals,
processed cheeses, candy, white flour, and white rice—and hello to more nourishing options. Once you understand
why certain foods don’t serve you, letting go becomes much easier.

Step 4 – Incorporate Goodness

My favourite step! This is all about adding more goodness to your diet. Explore healthy alternatives to your
favourite foods. Keep experimenting. It’s a lifelong learning process, and I still discover new things every day.

Step 5 – Have Fun!

This is when the magic happens. Get creative in the kitchen, try new recipes, and enjoy cooking for yourself.
Yes, it takes time and discipline, but once you’ve gone through the previous steps, you’ll find yourself thinking
twice before eating out.
